- The Mirror Test - Pigeons are amongst the few species that are capable of recognising themselves in the mirror!
- They understand numbers - it has been proven that pigeons are capable of not only counting, but they can also rank groups of items from smallest to largest! This is a skill only previously seen in primates. In fact, pigeons did as well in this test as monkeys
Pigeons can also recognise certain words and differentiate between all 26 letters of the alphabet! - Recognising cancerous tissue - pigeons have been capable of outperforming medical algorithms used to recognise cancer cells in tissue samples.
- Sense of direction - one of the most well known ways pigeons were used throughout history way were the carrier pigeons during the World Wars! This is due to their amazing sense of direction, allowing them to travel home from incredibly far distances.
- Art - pigeons are able to distinguish between the styles of different artists! Pigeons were trained to tell the difference between paintings by Monet and Picasso, and were even capable of categorising paintings they had never seen before by each artist.
